Good reasons to change schools.

  • You finished ESL and want a degree
  • You want a lower-cost or hybrid program
  • You need a program with practical training
  • You're moving to another state
  • Your current school isn't the right fit anymore

Finished your English program? Here's the next step.

Many students start with ESL and then move on to a college or university. It's one of the transfers we plan most. We look for programs that accept your English level, fit your budget and keep your plan moving, sometimes with practical training built in.

How a transfer works

  1. Choose the new school

We shortlist options and handle your admission.

  2. Get accepted

The new school sends a transfer form or acceptance.

  3. Set the release date

Your current school's DSO (Designated School Official) releases your SEVIS record to the new school on a date you agree on.

  4. New I-20

The new school issues a transfer I-20, and you report to them by their deadline.

  5. Start classes

You begin at the new school in the next available session.

Your DSOs manage the SEVIS record. We make sure the dates and documents are ready on your side.

When the transfer is complicated

If your status has issues, your SEVIS record was terminated, or you're past a deadline, a regular transfer may not work. Our partner attorneys review those cases first.

F-1 reinstatement support

What is a SEVIS transfer?

It's moving your F-1 record from one SEVP-certified school to another, so you can keep your status while you change schools.

Can I transfer during my grace period?

Often yes. A transfer is generally requested before the period you have to depart after finishing a program ends. Under the DHS rule that took effect September 15, 2026, that departure period is 30 days instead of 60, and students admitted before that date may follow transition rules. Check Study in the States for the latest, and talk to your DSO and to us early.

Will I lose time between schools?

Not if the dates are planned well. The new program should start in the next available session.

Can I transfer to a hybrid program?

Yes, if the program follows F-1 rules on online study. We'll show you options.

Does Ampara submit anything to SEVIS?

No. Only schools (through their DSOs) update SEVIS. We handle your admission, documents and timing.
